March 29 - Southaven (Lost 6-4)

Jeremy Ferguson through 5 innings of shut out baseball but it wasn't enough as the Vikings lose another close one. WC got on the board first in the 4th. Tom Corbin led off the inning with a double and later scored on a pass ball. In the 5th, John Rice Pettway led off the inning with a double and went to third on a sac bunt by Mark Different. Drew Warnock then hit a sac fly to make the score 2-0 Warren Central. Southaven scored 4 runs in the 6th. WC answered in the bottom of the inning. Jake Turner walked and Vaughn Mims singled. Jeremy Ferguson then singled to score Turner. John Rice Pettway then singled to score Mims and tie the game at 4. Southaven then scored 2 unearned runs in the top of the 7th to take 6-4 lead. WC loaded the bases in the bottom of the inning with one out, but Southaven got Turner to hit into a double play and end the game. Greg Carroll had 3 hits, Vaughn Mims had two hits, John Rice Pettway had 2 hits with a double, Tom Corbin had a double.


MARCH 29 - Terry (Won 3-1)

Greg Carroll pitched 5 2/3 innings to beat the #2 team in the State on Saturday 3-1. Daryl Harper relieved Carroll to pick up his second save of the year. Mark Different reached on an error in the 3rd and moved to 3rd on a hit and run by Warnock to put runners at the corners with nobody out. Alan Carlisle then singled to score Different and make the score 1-0. In the 5th inning, Greg Carroll doubled and scored on Alan Carlisle's triple. Carlisle scored on a Tom Corbin ground out to finish WC's scoring 3-0. Terry scored a run in the 6th and threatened in the 7th but couldn't scratch a run. Greg Carroll had a double. Alan Carlisle had a single and a triple. Jake Turner had a double.



March 25 - Forest Hill (Won 8-7)

Turner led off the 2nd inning with a single and was followed by Mims who singled. John Rice Pettway then singled to score Turner. Warnock reached on an error to score Mims. Greg Carroll singled to score Pettway and Warnock to make the score 4-3. Jake Turner led off the 3rd with a walk. After a stolen base, Vaughn Mims doubled to score Turner. Drew Warnock scored on a sac fly by Carlisle. Mims doubled in the 7th and moved to 3rd on a bunt single by Ferguson. Mims got caught at 3rd on a shot by Pettway but stayed in a rundown long enough to allow Otis Stamps, who was running for Ferguson, to move to third and Pettway to second. Two pass balls later WC moved ahead 8-7. Different picked up the win. Greg Carroll had 3 hits and Vaughn Mims had 3 hits with 2 doubles.


March 24 - Northwest Rankin (Lost 8-1)

Mark Different led off the 3rd with a triple and scored when Alan Carlisle reached on an error for WC's only run. Andrew Simmons took the loss.


March 22 - Madison Central (Lost 8-5)

Madison jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the 1st. In the 5th inning, down 5-0, WC got on the board. Jake Turner was hit by a pitch to lead off the inning. Zach Balthrop reached on an error and they both scored to make the score 5-2. Madison scored 3 in the 6th to extend their lead 8-2. Jake Turner led off the 7th with a solo HR. Zach Balthrop singled and Vaughn Mims was hit by a pitch to put runners on 1st and 2nd. Will Mendrop then doubled to score Balthrop. Drew Warnock singled to score Mims. Josh Gordon took the loss.


March 22 - Madison Central (Lost 16-1)

WC scored in the top of the first to take the lead but it didn't last long. Carlisle singled and stole second base. A pick off attempt went into center field moving Carlisle to 3rd. Tom Corbin then hit a deep fly ball to center field to score Carlisle. Balthrop took the loss.


March 21 - Vicksburg (Lost 13-1)

Vicksburg scored 3 runs in the first and did not look back as they pounded 11 hits and scored 13 runs. James Jackson held the Vikings to 3 hits. The Vikings came into this game hitting .331 as a team. Alan Carlisle had 2 hits and Neil Tillotson had a single. Jeremy Ferguson took the loss.


March 18 - WC vs Clinton (Lost 6-4)


March 11 - Lawrence County (Won 18-6)

WC had to come from behind and continued to the hit the baseball. Neil Tillotson led all hitters going 4-4 with a HR, a double and 4 RBI's. Greg Carroll had 2 hits with a double, Tom Corbin had 2 hits with his 3rd HR in as many games. Jeremy Ferguson had 2 hits, Vaughn Mims had a double. Mark Different relieved Drew Warnock and picked up his second win of the season.


March 11 - Brookhaven (Won 9-8)

WC spotted Brookhaven 7 runs and then chipped away for another come from behind win. Mark Different led the hitting attack with a triple, HR and 4 RBI's. Tom Corbin had 2 hits with a double, Jeremy Ferguson had a HR and a double, Andrew Simmons hit his 1st HR of the season. Vaughn Mims and Neil Tillotson each had a double.


March 10, 2003 - North Pike (Won 10-0)

Freshman Josh Gordon tossed a two-hit shutout in WC's 10-0 win over North Pike in the McComb Spring Tournament. Gordon struck out 5 walked none and allowed two first inning singles before retiring the final 16 batters in order. The game was called after 6 innings. Neil Tillotson had three doubles and two RBIs to raise his average to .565, and Jeremy Ferguson and Tom Corbin each had a solo home run. Carlisle, Different and Pettway all had multiple hits. Daryl Harper had an RBI double.


March 8, 2003 - Southaven (Lost 7-6)

Warren Central (3-6) suffered another close loss Saturday night against the Southaven Chargers. Andrew Simmons got the start and was knocked around early but settled in and pitched 4 2/3. Southaven scored 5 runs in the first 2 innings. Neil Tillotson led off the the 2nd with a single. Jeremy Ferguson bunted him over and John Rice Pettway tripled to score Tillotson. Daryl Harper hit a sac fly to score Pettway. In the 4th, Tillotson singled, Pettway doubled to score Tillotson, and Daryl Harper singled. Harper was thrown out at 2nd base on a steal attempt and Mark Different doubled to score Carroll, who was running for Pettway. Greg Carroll then doubled to score Different and tie the game at 5. In the 5th, Tom Corbin hit his first HR of the year and break the tie 6-5. Southaven answered in the bottom with 2 runs. Andrew Simmons took the loss.


March 8, 2003 - Horn Lake (Won 4-2)

John Rice Pettway led off the 3rd with a walk and courtesy runner Brian Carroll scored on a 1st and 3rd play to tie the game 1-1. In the 6th, Greg Carroll doubled and Vaughn Mims single to score Carroll and make the score 2-1. Tillotson then doubled to score Carlisle who had walked. Horn Lake made it 3-2 on a HR. In the seventh, Jeremy Ferguson single and moved to second on a sac bunt by Josh Gordon. Pettway singled to score Ferguson. Jeremy Ferguson picked up the win and Josh Gordon got the save.


March 7, 2003 - Forest Hill (Won 20-6)

Mark Different picked up WC's second win of the year by defeating the Rebels on Friday. Forest Hill jumped out to 3-0 lead in the first on a 3 run HR. Wc answered in the bottom of the first with 7 runs. The Vikings scored 6 in the 2nd and 7 in the 4th for a 20-6 route. Jeremy Ferguson led all hitters with 3 hits including a double. Greg Carroll had 2 hits with a double. Alan Carlisle had 2 singles and scored 3 runs, Jake Turner had 2 hits with a double, Neil Tillotson had 2 hits with a double, John Rice Pettway had 2 hits with a double, and Andrew Simmons had a triple.


March 4, 2003 - Vicksburg (Lost 6-5)

March 1, 2003 - Mcgill-Toolen, Mobile Alabama (Won 8-1)

In a game of big hits, good pitching and trick plays the Vikings earn their first win of the season. Zach Balthrop pitched six innings to get the win. Greg Carroll came on in relief and pitched the final inning. Vaughn Mims had a pair of doubles and scored twice to lead the Viking offense. Jeremy Ferguson had a pair of hits. Tom Corbin and Greg Carroll also registered hits. Warren Central took a 4-0 lead into the third inning and scored twice in each of the fifth and sixth innings. Late in the game with a Mcgill-toolen runner on first, a Balthrop curve in the dirt was blocked by John Rice Pettway. Second baseman Alan Carlisle told the Mcgill-Toolen runner that it was a foul ball. When he started to return to first base he was tagged out by Carlisle.


March 1, 2003 - Morton (Lost 5-3)

Jeremy Ferguson was the starting pitcher and was charged with the loss. He was relieved by Mark Different. Vaughn Mims had an RBI triple and Greg Carroll had an RBI double but the Vikings only managed three hits. James Harris of Morton hit a three-run home run in the sixth inurning giving Morton the lead and the victory.


Feb. 28, 2003 - Meridian (Lost 6-0)

In wet and sloppy playing conditions the Vikings lost an error prone game to Meridian. Boswell scattered 6 hits and did not allow a run as the Vikings were shut out by the Wildcats. Andrew Simmons pitched three innings and was charged with the loss. Simmons was relieved by Josh Gordon. Neil Tillotson had two hits.


Feb. 22, 2003 - Oak Grove (Lost 10-6) (Lost 3-2)

Game 1 : (Lost 10-6)

WC jumped out to a 6-2 lead before the rain postponed the game and dampened WC's spirits. WC batted through the order in the 2nd. Jake Turner led it off with a double, Jeremy Ferguson singled and Daryl Harper walked to load the bases. Andrew Simmons hit a sac fly to right to score Turner. Mark Different walked to load the bases again. Alan Carlisle singled in Ferguson and Tom Corbin hit a triple to left field to put WC ahead 5-0. Vaughn Mims singled in the 3rd and scored on a bases loaded walk by Simmons. Alan Carlisle had 2 hits, Tom Corbin had a triple and 3 RBI's, Jake Turner had 2 hits with a double, and Jeremy Ferguson had 3 singles. Different took the loss.

Game 2 : Jeremy Ferguson was the starter for game two of the double header. Jeremy had a strong outing giving up just 2 hits and 2 runs to the hard hitting Oak Grove Warriors. After pitching four innings and striking out five Ferguson was replaced with freshman Josh Gordon. Gordon gave up a solo home run in the fifth but pitched well for his first appearance for the Vikes. Ferguson took the loss in a close 3-2 game.
